Heritage of Service: A Personal Story of Leadership and Stewardship
Every leader’s story begins long before they step into formal roles of
responsibility. Mine begins with my family. Our story is one of
service, upheaval, and renewal — a legacy marked by wars and
revolutions, and by power and loss. What endures across generations is
the deeper heritage of leadership, stewardship, and Christian service
to all, lifting others up and helping those in need.
My family’s story spans continents and cultures. From Europe to the
Americas, our heritage centres on broad Roman and Old Russian
traditions, enriched by other cultural influences. Across generations,
our ancestors served as leaders, farmers, soldiers, and stewards. That
diversity of background instilled in me a sense of responsibility — a
reminder that heritage carries meaning only when it is lived out in
service to others.
And yet, history is complex. Wars often shatter fortunes. Revolutions
level estates. Generations may fall into poverty only to rebuild again.
Indeed, privilege can come and go, and even generational wealth often
does not last. This rhythm is part of who we are. Heritage, legacy, and
education, on the other hand, are things that can never be taken away.
They represent a sacred responsibility.
That responsibility is not measured in wealth, but in stewardship. As
Prince Antonio de Curtis, the beloved Italian actor and comedian known
as Totò, once said: “Money makes you rich, but respect, manners, and
humility make you a gentleman.” My legacy shows me that true meaning
lies in service, in respect for others, and in the determination to use
one’s position, skills, and talents for the good of the community.
From childhood, I was trained for leadership and service. My ancestry
gave me both the weight of history and the humility of its
responsibility. It showed me both great power and great loss. It taught
me that identity is not only about what you inherit, but how you honour
and build upon it. And, it taught me how to handle success and power as
well as challenges and hardship. My resilience is born of legacy,
stewardship shaped by history, and the determination to leave the world
better than I found it. I always move forward.
This is my heritage, and I am proud of it. It has given me resilience
in adversity, clarity in leadership, and a sense of mission that shapes
my work today. My story is one of legacy, stewardship, and service —
different in some way from others, but also in harmony with them,
because true diversity means that every story has value.
